The Crafting Process
As Told by Our Artisan
"Our work begins with choosing fabric, usually cotton or linen, because these materials are simple, soft, and durable. For generations, Vietnamese people lived by the belief that “ăn chắc, mặc bền” (quality lasts longer), and that way of life has shaped the way we create each product.
After selecting the fabric, we choose the thread. Sometimes it’s cotton, sometimes silk, and occasionally a touch of metallic thread to add a subtle accent. There are many colors to work with, but over the years, we’ve learned how to combine them in a way that feels balanced and refined, so each embroidered piece can suit different occasions: a cozy family meal, an elegant dinner to welcome guests, or the festive spirit of a holiday celebration.
We are rural women, spending our days cooking meals, caring for children, and helping our husbands in the fields. Embroidery was passed down to us from our mothers and grandmothers when we were young. Now, every time we sit down with a needle and thread, it feels like life slows down. Sometimes we spend an entire afternoon on a single flower, but watching each petal gradually appear on the fabric brings a sense of peace. This work gives us joy, and it also provides a little extra income, helping to ease the burdens of life and lessen our dependence.
We believe that when something is made with both hands and heart, it carries a warmth of its own. Our hope is that when you hold an embroidered piece, whether a cloth or a table cover, you’ll feel not only the beauty of the stitches, but also the love, patience, and humble life of the women who made it."
